Felled

The silver birch tree in the centre of the picture has been a troublesome beast for quite some time. It tangles with the overhead wires and twice we have had professionals come to thin out the branches in an effort to avoid problems during wet and windy weather. It is looking it's best at this time of year but is a miserable sight in the winter months when stripped of leaves, exposing the cut back limbs. The tree  borders the road, which is much quieter than usual because of the pandemic shut down, therefore a good time to arrange for the tree to be cut down.
Today was the day. The men came bright and early.
"There's a firm in California with the same name," they told us.
"That's who I was expecting," said Himself. (Not everyone understands his sense of humour.)
It was fascinating to see them work.

They almost made it look easy!

It took the whole day to winch each piece safely down.
They did a great job.

  1. That is impressive how those tree guys work, up so high and always the possibility of a mishap. This quiet time was a good time to have the work done.

    1. They were two really pleasant and interesting men who obviously love the work that they do. It certainly made it much easier to have a quiet road for this operation.

  2. We have one in the very back of the garden. They are such messy trees. I keep hoping that some forse of nature willtake it out.

    1. Yes, messy and this one VERY expensive given the several payments over the years to keep it under control. I'm quite pleased to see the back of it!

  3. Sounds like an excellent time to have the tree taken care of. Wonderful.

I like their name. That's fun.

Were you able to keep any of the wood to work with for later or to use at the bottom of higher raised garden beds? I chopped a few small dead birches, tiny guys, and am excited to reuse them for the garden.

    1. Yes, we have all the wood. Himself is busy splitting it and storing it to dry out. At some future date it will be warming us in the wood burner. I've got a mountain of chippings for pathways and to put on the base of the compost heap.
Time hanging heavy in lock down? As if!

    2. I just came from your most recent post. I love it! Well done you guys.

I agree with you. No heavy time hanging here either. Rather, I feel thankful to be about building raised beds and enjoying the sun. Thiught, I live this way, lockdown or no.

      Happy Sunday!

  4. I understand that this was necessary, but I guess it still made you sad seeing such a large tree go.
Those men did a great job by the looks of it. And what a big difference between their way of making a living and mine!

    1. No, I had reached the point where I was tired of the problems that it posed. The men worked with great care and precision, it was interesting to see how they tackled the problem.
People who really care about their work are always interesting.

  5. I have had a very large tree cut down and was fascinated by the tree acrobats. I am sure they are having fun, but there were some times that I caught myself yelling OMG.

    1. Yes, there were one or two occasions when I didn't want to look!

  6. I really want to thank Dr Emu for saving my marriage. My wife really treated me badly and left home for almost 3 month this got me sick and confused. Then I told my friend about how my wife has changed towards me. Then she told me to contact Dr Emu that he will help me bring back my wife and change her back to a good woman. I never believed in all this but I gave it a try. Dr Emu casted a spell of return of love on her, and my wife came back home for forgiveness and today we are happy again.
