Friday night

Yesterday evening we fought our way through the Bath Christmas market on our way to a friend's private view at the city art gallery. Although the market grows larger year on year it doesn't seem to improve in the goods that are for sale. There seem to be far more food stalls than in previous years and people chomping away as they wandered about. There was nothing there that tempted me to stop and buy.

Perhaps if I were starting from scratch I might have bought some decorations, but I keep my Christmas things  from year to year and already have more than enough.

The paper stars stall was rather lovely.
The art gallery was crowded, as is always  the case at a private view. I'll visit another day when it isn't so busy. Sally's show is a dog lover's delight!
There are dog portraits of all sizes to enjoy, from very small to very large.
If you've ever owned a dog you will recognise some of the expressions!

What's not to love about a dog with a long nose?!

It was pretty grim to return to a dog-less house after this show.

  1. I would definitely enjoy Sally’s dog show. Did she have any pups in the audience?

    1. Two legs only, it was too crowded for those with four.

  2. I have been involved with wildlife all my life but I have never had the urge to have house pets. We are visiting my daughter and her family in Ottawa at present and they have a dog, now every old, that we have known since she was a puppy. I don't think she will be with us much longer.

    1. Our family home always had a couple of dogs and I miss their company. Not so my husband, which is why I am now without the unquestioning devotion that only a dog provides!

  3. Same problem here in Switzerland with markets. All have the same stuff, mostly made in China. Not tempting me to buy as well. But I love the pretty lights and the smell of Glühwein.
Sallys paintings are heart warming. Very lovely.

    1. The atmosphere is pleasantly buzzy at the market and it does look quite pretty at night. I think in the daylight it will all look rather tatty.
Sally's paintings made me smile, she has caught the character and mood of her subjects so well!

  4. Our Christmas market has a good mix of food and non-food stalls, and the city council are working on keeping it that way. Also, they could have the market at twice its size, from the number of applicants they get each year, but they deliberately keep a limit of 180 stalls. The one in Bath looks beautiful from your pictures! I have not yet been to a Christmas market in the UK but am dreaming of experiencing a true Yorkshire Christmas one year. As long as my parents are still here, though, I don't want to be anywhere else than home this time of year.

    1. Bath market used to look very attractive, with stalls huddled beneath the walls of the abbey. This year they are repositioned in the shopping area and the atmosphere is not the same.
Christmas is for family so you are wise to enjoy the company of your parents. We travelled to Yorkshire to be with our parents each Christmas while they were alive just as our daughters now travel home to be with us.
