Reclaiming the streets

Every first Sunday in the month the town of Frome closes its main roads to traffic and sets up stalls where local artisans can sell their wares. There's always a great atmosphere, and today, with the stalls full of Christmas goods, it was especially so. Various choirs and groups of carol singers entertained,
the three kings wandered about the market place
and street vendors were dressed in seasonal colours.
This shopper had decorated her hat with a strand of holly.
What a lovely outfit for a winter's day!

The town was packed.

The shops were open, their window displays tempting people inside.

Frome is famous for vintage - formerly known as 'second hand'! You never know what you might find.
Ah, just what I was looking for, some lovely old crepe paper streamers!

But it's vintage fashion that attracts shoppers to the town. I wanted to buy a waistcoat for Himself but I couldn't find a suitable one today.

Never mind, it's interesting just to look.

And it gives me a reason to come again another day!

    1. The trouble with many of those period dresses is the very dainty sizing!

    1. Such a simple touch to add a length of holly but it made her whole outfit look festive. There was a lovely atmosphere throughout the whole town.

  3. Dresses were so elegant in days gone by, weren't they? Love the ones in that last photo. Thank you for showing us a taste of Frome's Christmas street market; it's a shame we can't hear the choirs and singers, too. x

    1. My blogging ability is very basic, I've no idea how to add music. New Year resolution perhaps - learn more skills?

    1. My kind as well! It's very heartening to find so many creative and enthusiastic people, a great change from the endless repetition of goods on offer in the multinationals in our city centres.

    1. That would be good, Parsnip. There were lots of dogs there, bringing their owners, the small squares would fit in a treat!
