Bank Holiday

Yesterday we had a bit of British Bank Holiday weather - well, we had rather a lot of it actually.
Pouring rain! (Probably because we had put out all the garden furniture.)
Not that I'm complaining because it filled all the butts and water barrels, cleared a thick film of dust from the Sahara that had settled on the solar panels and watered the garden very thoroughly.
Earlier in the week Himself had dismantled the garden seat because  it is in need of repair. It's an old clinker-built rowing boat that had been used by the water bailiff who lived in the house across the road. The boat had been discarded and left to rot in a pile of brambles by the lake until, for the price of a donation to the local hospice, we 'rescued' it.
It is in need, once again, of quite a bit of repair. Himself better make a good job of it in case we have to row to higher ground!
Only joking!

  1. Hello again, I took my own blog down but I hope it is ok I keep visiting here?

I'd love to hear more about your solar panels? How much energy do they supply? What purpose do you use them for? I've been assuming you are like us & on the grid, but perhaps that is wrong? (We've chosen for now not to go with solar because of the high costs of retrofitting and because of the electrical requirements of our shared well & septic & heat -- this house is all electric, but for the woodstove we had installed).

You have these and the electric car plug in. We didn't want to deal with how much a car would up our electrical use or look for plugging stations elsewhere or run out of juice while on a long road trip so we opted for hybrid instead. But most the time we don't drive -- hubby bicycle commutes and save all my driving for 1 day per week. (In other words, these days we're pretty practiced at being homebodies and boring and adventuring out on foot from our doorstep!)

Hmmm... I'd like to be more green (and a capital M maximalist like you!).

Hope you're having a good day.

    1. Strike 'tidy' from your list, Wildside, I'm convinced it's over-rated.

  4. It has been a long time since we have had a good soaking rain.
I love the word "water bailiff" it sounds so Victorian. The boat is beautiful.

    1. We are having very confusing weather, one day warm and dry, the next very cold and wet.
I'll post about the water bailiff.

  5. That boat is a great find and probably a terrific conversation piece.

I enjoy spring rains if they only last one day.

    1. Spring rains are coming every other day here - once a week would be better! But it certainly makes things grow.

    1. The boat was just rotting away until we acquired it. It is fixed up-ended to use as a seat and rocks gently on its fixings, which seems most appropriate.

  7. The plants are so green, even oin low rain-light.
    I like the intense green.
This boat actually looks like a big nutshell. :-)
PS: yes, please! Tell us more about your solar panels.

    1. It's the brightness of new greenery, very fresh and soft.
The boat seat is tucked into a quiet corner and it does, indeed, feel a bit like sitting in half a nut shell!

  8. What a clever idea for a garden seat. I love re-purposing the odd item as this.

  9. I love your old boat! What a cool idea to use it as a garden seat. Recycling something like this is so rewarding I think! Wishing you a good week!

    1. Himself has been patching it up in the garage and now we are just waiting for the rain to stop so that it can be put back into the garden - and sit in it!
