Fettling up

I'm busy cutting back plants that have flowered, hedges and shrubs that  have grown out of shape, and generally having a right good fettle up, as they say up north!  I've put the soft growth on the compost heap but there remains a huge pile of debris. Once it has dried out and there is a steady west wind I shall have the pleasure of lighting an enormous bonfire.
The flowers with late summer colours are starting to emerge.
A small clematis is attempting to rise above the fennel. It is actually blue, but the camera occasionally seems to make up it's own colours on a whim!
I've spent today sorting out my garden store. This is my sole domain - Himself has the garage, a painting shed and a carving room, but he sneaked up with the camera to record what I was up to.
The little building is crammed with things that some might think a load of rubbish, such a various bits of string and bent wire.  I'm sure they will all come in useful sometime or other!
I'm winning!
Okay, so it looks a tad scruffy. But I can assure you that it's a whole lot better than it was before.

  1. First off I want to compliment you on your gorgeous hair and style...also I am very impressed that you can work in your garden and stay so clean and wear white!
We are not allowed to have bonfires here so we compost like mad and have some of the bigger stuff sent to the community compost depot.
Fettle is a new word...love the sound...your garden looks well tended :-)

    1. I don't think I've got style, Hostess, but I've possibly got attitude! I went for a haircut this week, my first in over three months, and it is a slight variation on the usual. It's now a bit heavier and falling forwards rather than swept to one side. I don't do anything at all to it so am dependant on the skills of my hairdresser.
I've had the most glorious bonfire tonight, everything burnt. I shall put the ash on the compost heap tomorrow. (I wear inexpensive white tees in the garden but they don't stay white - thank goodness for effective cleaning products!)

  2. Fettle dee dee. That's a new word for me, too. And look at you. A regular teenager in your cut offs. I think it looks like a terrific space. A room of one's own!

    1. The shorts are ancient and have reached the state of collapse that makes them almost trendy! I work in the garden in equally ancient walking boots that have lost their tread and don't collect earth on the sole. It's not an elegant outfit but it's one that I wear pretty often and am happy in.

    1. You go right ahead and have a good fettle, Jane, the cats may want to help you! Vanilla from next door came to assist for a while - how that cat stays white beats me!
