More decorating!
I've done the shop, up and out early this morning, beating the crowds, so it wasn't bad at all. I am feeling quite organised, apart from buying a huge bundle of parsley that turned out to be coriander when I got home. I've even set the table! To have enough room for everyone to sit involves putting two tables together. I have never in all the various places where we've lived managed to have one generous table that seats everyone. It has been on my wish list. The fault is my own because I'm not prepared to lose my grandmother's walnut table, my parents' table and the little kitchen one that we've had all our married life. So, no space for a big one! Instead we drag in a bit of garden furniture and 'make do.'
I've added some more dangly bits from the light fitting. More is more at Christmas!
Even the slightest bit of sunshine is welcome at this time of year.

Oh that is lovely. A proper Christmas that I miss so much. If I got on a plane right now I could possibly make it in time :) . How wonderful to have your Grandmother's walnut table. Are some if those cards old ones. I still have one written by my father who died in 1982 and several with robins
ReplyDeleteThe cards are all from this season, quite a round of robins this year! Also a number sheep in the snow from my friends in the North.
DeleteIt all looks very festive and welcoming. I love your robin cards.
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely to get everyone's news in the cards, an annual catch-up from those who live far away.
DeleteLovely decorations . I'm sure no one but you will notice your making-do arrangement. It all looks cosy and friendly
ReplyDeleteIt's family and friends so no one cares!
DeleteMy cats would have a wonderful time with your decorations : ) They certainly put one in the holiday spirit!
ReplyDeleteOh, you are making me laugh - I've seen too many Instagram accounts of what cats can do to a Christmas tree!
DeleteOh yes, more definitely IS more at Christmas!
ReplyDeleteYour table looks very inviting. And of course it‘s not really the table itself that matters, but who is sitting at it.
Oh, you are absolutely right. Our Christmas festivities are small and traditional and all about family and friends.
DeleteTwice over - One person hung their tree from the ceiling but the cat still got there and had a wonderful time swinging about and wrecking the place!
ReplyDeletelove the paper lanterns (I know the two oval ones aren't lanterns) from the chandelier. and those little birds with the red breast seem to be de rigueur for christmas cards.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of pushing tables together to make a while, especially since they all have special meaning to you.
ReplyDeleteYour decorations remind me so much of my childhood Christmases, we did the same with the tables, the children sat at the smaller lower one, and adults the grand one :)
ReplyDeleteThe paper lanterns are so sweet and festive, I remember when we used to rub balloons on our woolen sweaters and then place on the wall to stick.....half-way through Christmas dinner they would all fall to the floor, and we would repeat the process.
Hope you have some Christmas crackers on hand, wearing the party hats are a must, it's a magical time of the year.
Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year !
Hugs,
~Jo
How pretty! I do have a huge table that was my parents', but a few years ago we took it down and stored it away. It is 5' square, and takes a lot of space...and we really only used it once or twice a year. I miss it, though.
ReplyDeleteI am going with a julbord concept this year, a buffet style grazing table as I am not sure exactly when my grands will arrive. So no big dinner, but I have done this in the past and they like it.
