First flowers of 2024.

We are experiencing such a battering of wind and rain at the moment, although not suffering from the repeated flooding and loss of electricity that many in the country are having to endure. I have barely been out of doors for days. When I do go into the garden it is to pick up fallen branches for kindling or to gather the camellia flowers that have been knocked from their stems and lie in pools of colour on the ground. How promising it is, in spite of the weather, to see new growth emerging, buds waiting to open, small glints of green showing on a dead-looking branch. I've made a start at packing away the Christmas decorations, everything from the kitchen and some of the greenery. All will be gone by Friday, which is Twelfth Night. I've put the camellia flowers where the nativity set was placed. Tomorrow I'll tackle the tree!

    1. These flowers are very heart-warming at such a dreary time of year and there is the promise of better things to come!

  2. Those flowers are so cheerful!

There has been a lot of flooding and storms here in Germany, too; thankfully, my area is not affected by floods and has not suffered from the storms too badly.
By Sunday, we're in for a cold spell with snow and temperatures below freezing.

    1. Yes, cold weather coming here as well. I wish our triple-glazed windows were in place!

  3. No matter what day or month you always have some lovely flowers to post.
The good thing about having a son and granddaughter living with you is Christmas gets put away fast.
    Happy New Year !

    1. This garden has few flowers, I've done some planting, bulbs and rose bushes so am hopeful for the future!
We are ten minutes away from our younger daughter and partner and grandson. They can pop in and out - it is still a novelty! I love it.

  4. I hope the storms have abated. The camellias are beautiful, and brighten up these January days. Ours are not nearly blooming yet.

    1. Winter flowers always amaze me, they look so delicate but must be as tough as old boots! Just to bring one or two blooms into the house is a pleasure.
