Rain

We've had a solid day of rain. No complaints, it was much needed. Now the water butts are full, the pond looking far more respectable and everywhere is green, green, green - and growing!

  1. We are finally having a much needed day of rain, too. Everything looks so much better and refreshed afterwards, doesn‘t it!

  2. Yes, the countryside looks wonderful after the rain.

  3. Did you plant that row of four (five?) conifers on the edge of the mown field? Now that's real gardening. I've only dared plant one tree in the whole of my mainly non-gardening life, a prunus to celebrate my wife's birthday about fifteen years ago. As usual with anything I plant there've been three emotional stages: (1) A profound and gloomy conviction that nothing will happen other than the plant will die. (2) Uncontrolled euphoria when a few spindly leaves arrive at what always seems an unseasonal time of the year. (3) A return of the gloom several years later when - in the case of the prunus - the pavement stones in the adjacent walkway are heaved up into the optimal tripping position.

  4. I can't claim praise for planting the conifers and must confess to probably having taken down more trees than I've ever planted. At our previous house we removed a fair number of self-seeded ash trees that had grown high and angled in their jostling for space. At our present home we have, once again, removed over-large conifer and birch trees. Not all negative however, I have planted some replacements!
