The Minack Theatre

This carefully brought up young lady was the unlikely creator of the Minack Theatre, a spectacular  outdoor theatre that clings to the cliffside near to Porthcurno Beach below Land's End in Cornwall.

Porthcurno Beach.
An early photo of the terrain where the theatre was created.

Rowena Cade
was very hands on!
And here's the result.

Past performances are inscribed on the concrete seats.
Don't worry, if you come to a performance you can hire a cushion!

The children were having a lot of fun.

If you like succulents then this is the garden for you!

It's quite a show!

  2. I wonder if they had any idea how grand these first few stones would be.

  3. We visited there in 2014, and really astonished at her enthusiasm to make the amazing theatre and garden. Our labour for making garden is far easy compared to her.

    1. I have visited Cornwall many times but never seen this theatre before. What a treat it was! I spoke to the two gardeners who told me that the ultra violet light in the area creates the lushness of the planting.

  4. What a breathtaking setting, and I love the story of how it came to be. Just shows what can be done when we put our mind to something and have good help!

    1. Vertigo - you and me both. It must be quite a business at a performance getting too and from your seat in the darkness.

    1. Given the British weather the concept of an outdoor theatre is rather ridiculous - but fabulous!

    1. I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Parsnip. Perhaps some of the planting is familiar to you, it looks very exotic to my eyes.
