Waste not want not. I've punched a few holes in the base of the containers and they've been put to good use in the greenhouse.
I've planted them up with first early peas and mange tout.
I'm thinking that if the bottom of each carton rots away I'll be able to plant the whole thing in the ground without disturbing any roots. (It's not often one hopes for the bottom to drop out of anything!)
It's bitterly cold outside, with frost on the cards for tonight, so I'm still just pottering about under cover.
I do exactly the same in Waitrose too - it really does feel like a treat - free Sunday Times for me and a cafe latte. Good idea to use them for planting seeds♡
ReplyDeleteA cappuccino and the Saturday Times for me, where I read what my daughter has to say. (I sometimes get a dishonourable mention.)
DeleteWhich section does your daughter write in?
DeleteWishing you a little Florida sunshine :)
ReplyDeleteThat would be so good, Mac - even the thought is a little warming.
DeleteI go to Starbuck's and pick up bags full of the used coffee grounds to spread around the garden. We are warm and so dry here, wildfires are being pushed by the gale winds. Today, they were showing cattle running from the flames and horses penned in the corral. I don't like to see things like that so I just hope someone came and opened the gates. It is hard to stop wildfires.
ReplyDeleteDonna, what a great idea and I have acted on it! I went to Waitrose today and came away with a free bag of spent coffee grounds.
DeleteWildfires sound terrifying. I know that I moan a great deal about the weather here in Blighty but it is a benign climate really. (And today it actually feels like spring and I'm feeling optimistic!)
I would love to start my planting, but it is a few weeks too early.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great idea with the empty cooked cups.
And what about Donna's idea above!
DeleteClever you, perhaps I should do the same. I get a daily coffee in a paper cup. Thanks for the great idea.
ReplyDeleteI only get one cup a week but they certainly stack up over time.
DeleteThat is one clever idea! And coffee grounds (used) I never knew.
ReplyDeleteI'd no idea that shops were happy to give away their spent grounds until I read Donna's comment. Now I've got a heavy bag of the stuff to use. I'm of Yorkshire/Scottish blood so something for nothing makes me very happy!
