Autumn

We wake to still days and morning mist,
autumn has definitely arrived.

Once the mist has cleared I wander out into the garden. Everything is looking rather dishevelled and although it is still a pleasant temperature in the daytime cool temperatures at night mean that the growing season is over for my vegetables. It's been a mixed year, great for traditional English veg such as carrots, leeks and parsnips that have enjoyed a cool, wet August but a miserable failure for some other crops that needed a great deal more warmth and sunshine.
On the bright side there is still plenty of colour to bring into the house.

It's a lovely time of year.

  1. I envy the fact you can just go outside to your outstanding wonderful garden and then return to the house with a beautiful bouquet of flowers.

    cheers, parsnip

    1. But when I think of you, Parsnip, I also think of Georgia O'Keefe and her flowering desert! This is a lovely time of year to be in England, eating well from the garden and enjoying a good level of light before the onset of winter gloom.

    1. However I'm not too keen on the thought of the sun departing, what I fancy is a VERY long Indian summer.

    1. I love these silent, rather dreamy starts to the day - even better when it's followed by the sun breaking through!

  6. I LOVE all the photos. We have had a few misty mornings also which are lovely and a sign of the cool weather that is slowly creeping in.

    1. I hope the words. 'slowly' and 'creeping' are accurate, Maybe, as apposed to rushing quickly!

Sorry, I got lost in the clouds.

  8. Love the misty photos. To me it seems, as if fall has arrived earlier this year. I wanted to do so much more in the garden, but had so little time, and now it's soon time to make the garden ready for winter. Luckily there will be another spring another chance :o). Kind regards, Alex

  9. Ah, Alex, gardeners are always optimistically looking forward! I've bought my spring bulbs ready for planting but there's a fair bit of cutting back and tidying up to be getting on with first. Himself is busy clearing and mending gutters in preparation for the winter to come; a year goes by in a flash.
