Roses in January

It's a dull old day, but when I looked out of the landing window this morning I saw a tree bravely, or foolishly, covered in pink blossom.

In the garden three bedraggled roses were in bloom. There are signs of an early spring everywhere, small clumps of primroses and other growth that will be hard hit if February turns out to be it's usual cruel month.
I've picked the roses and put them on my kitchen table where I can enjoy them in the warmth.

  1. With this unusually warm weather we are experiencing, I noticed my bulbs sprouting up in the ground. I do hope that the winter that I know will eventually get here will not damage them..

Getting roses from Mother Nature in winter is such a special gift.

    1. They are poor little specimens, but so welcome at this time of year.

  2. Yes, we have a few rather sad looking roses out - and a few snowdrops and aconites - even a clump of primrose. Isn't it funny how we all desperately look for signs of Spring even in the darkest days.

    1. A hard frost here today that's going to put a stop to signs of spring!

  3. I love that glimpse of your garden with the tree in bloom.
Mine looks all brown and mucky these days, not much colour in sight.
Some bulbs are popping up and I think they must be the snowdrops about to flower.

Those roses are such a cheery tonic, what a lovely surprise.

    1. Dear Hostess, there is still a lot of mud and muck to be seen, but these few, frail roses give me a great deal of pleasure.

  4. It is worrying to see Spring so early. What if we *do* get a dose of Winter?
Yet also what if we don't, and our climate and gardens spin even further awry?
