The days are heavy with threatened thunderstorms, we get a sudden downpour and then it is followed by warm sunshine. Its certainly good growing weather.
The air is close and it feels quite uncomfortable to be inside, I'm happier to be in the open air whenever the rain stops.
My 'Cinderella' rose hates the wet and the buds become sodden, rotting balls. I've learnt from experience and now pick the flowers before they can spoil.
Its always nice to bring a few of the garden flowers into the house.
Our former neighbour, Sally, called today.
We sat in the garden for a good catch-up
then went into the orchard to pick plums.
Ouch, a wasp sting!
I hope you'll think the sting was worth it, Sally, when you're eating your plum jam!
(There was another torrential downpour after she had left.)

How pesky of those beetles, there is always something or other!
DeleteIt was so lovely to see Sally, she and her husband (and white cats!) were wonderful neighbours whom we miss very much.
You know how much I love your garden, from the pictures alone! So nice to have a visitor, and to share your garden riches with her. That wasp sting - ouch, I would have not forgotten it so quickly!

ReplyDeleteI too am a gardener and I live in the beautiful countryside of the Shropshire/Welsh Marches. Since the thunderstorms have stopped we have lots of rain, necessary and welcome to begin with but now I’d rather get outside again.

ReplyDeleteThe garden is teetering out of control, but is a source of joy, especially so in these restrictive times. Friends and neighbours come and spend time with us in the garden, comfortably socially distanced. I feel so sorry for those people who have no personal outdoor space. Our elder daughter lives in a flat in central London but she has a roof garden which she describes as an absolute blessing. It has never been so well tended!
ReplyDeleteEverywhere looks so lush and green. The pain of the wasp sting will fade onto memory and the pleasure of the plum jam will outlast it. On balance, not a bad trade I would say.
