winter skywatch

At the start of the week we were waking to crisp, frosty mornings
and the promise of sun that never lasted for long.

A pheasant in the orchard looking for windfalls.
But this morning we woke to a different scene. I went round the garden with a soft sweeping brush banging the snow from bushes and branches so that they wouldn't be damaged by the weight of snow.
We've had about ten inches or so and it embarrasses me that the country seems to fall apart every time we have a bit of weather like this. My father used to put chains on the wheels of his car in snowy conditions and always got to where he was going, slowly but safely.
It's a rather leaden sky for Friday Skywatch because the snow continued to fall for much of the day.

  2. Is that garden. Most people around my area has big fence around garden or deer will eat up the garden.

    1. We do get deer leaping into the garden from time to time and eating very well. Young chard leaves are a favourite, although they will try a nibble at anything!

  3. We haven’t had great amounts of snow, but lately, we have had snow every other day. It isn’t that much to shovel but causes lots of traffic accidents on the roads. We had a fifteen minute, white-out squall the other day and it caused a 26 car pile up. I remember the chains but we are not allowed to use them anymore because it tore up roads.

    1. What a pile up. The road through our village was like an ice rink, but no problem at all on the main roads, they are well gritted and salted.
