Light and shade.

We are enjoying some beautiful sunlit days, autumn is wonderful when it's like this. We walked through the tropical garden to the beach in the morning. Everything is still very green, we haven't had cold enough nights yet to bring out many autumn colours.
The acorns and pine needles have mostly fallen now, but the neighbours large oak tree that overhangs our roof is still in full leaf. All the leaves will drop into our garden in due course, I've got a large compost bay ready for them! Before that happens I can enjoy sitting in a deckchair to make the most of this lovely weather.
The sun is low in the sky now and throws most of our garden into deep shade.
Just a little promise of what is to come.
Daughter popped in with a present of freezias. I can remember when just one sprig of freezias would perfume an entire room. What has happened to the scent of flowers? They seem to have been bred out. (And it isn't because I've got a code in my dose!) Daughter knows me well and chose the colour that I love, they are giving me so much pleasure.
Then I got a surprise bunch of flowers in the post from an old college friend. How happy am I to have the house awash with such lovely things!

  1. The top two pictures in particular could be here in New Zealand. Lovely autumn colour starting, that is something I miss here as we have a lot of evergreens. Great to have cut flowers.

  5. Yes, flowers are magical, and we love their colors and their fragrance. I only buy roses for my garden that exude a rich fragrance...
There are still many rose blossoms on the bushes; it's wonderful.
Unfortunately, the days are getting shorter... but the sun still has a wonderful power.
I wish you much joy in your beautiful blue deck chair... enjoy the sunny dream.
Best wishes and thank you for your beautiful photos.

  6. For a week now, we‘ve been having chilly, grey and often wet days. I was hoping to hold out until October before needing the heating on, but I have succumbed already.
Your garden looks great no matter the time of year, and to have two beautiful bouquets of flowers in your kitchen brightens everything evem further.

  7. Things are about the same here on the west coast of Canada - not much colour, yet, but the leaves are mellowing. Still lots of lovely sunshine.

  8. Oh, wow, it really looks like summer. We just came back last week from Scotland, where the signs of autumn could be seen. Here in Switzerland it is wet and and the leaves from the tree start to fall down. Hedgehogs are quick and take the leaves for their winter beds. I have just one little fellow, which worries me a bit and which I probably have to bring to a rescue center for hedgehogs. He is so small and I guess not ready for the cold season.
Wow, what lovely flowers you received. Lucky you.
