RAIN!!
At last we've had some rain, ten minutes of torrential downpour. We really should have cleared our gutters beforehand because many weeks of tree debris had clogged the corners of the guttering and some of the downpipes. The water shot off the blockages and fell on newly planted seedlings, washing them away. When the rain stopped Himself put his hand down various drains and removed a load of matted pine needles and a dead bat! There wasn't enough rainfall to fill the water barrels but I'm very thankful for something rather than nothing.
All is well in the conservatory,the 'Red Cherry' tomatoes ripening nicely. We've been eating the yellow tomatoes from the allotment for weeks now, they are very prolific and I'll certainly grow that variety again.
I'll still be saving my bathwater tonight to go on the garden. I hope that wherever you are the weather is doing what you want it to do!

Pleased to hear you had some rain. We have a fine day (so far) but on Tuesday it hosed down all day with the odd shower since then.
ReplyDelete'Hosed all day' is exactly what we are in need of! One short shower simply does not cut the mustard!
DeleteOh, praises be! Your summer has been like ours last year. It just feels so desperate when it doesn't rain for weeks.
ReplyDeleteWe accidentally ended up with the little yellow cherry tomatoes this year, instead of the yellow pear I thought I had bought. I think the greenhouse labeled them incorrectly. But I am so glad! They are so sweet, and as you say, prolific!
The variety that I've grown are called 'Sungold' and I've got plenty of seed laft to plant next season. They are performing well in spite of drought conditions. It is a healthy, clean crop. Other crops on the allotment are in a very poor state,barely hanging on to life the short rainfall that we had at the house didn't reach the allotment and the soil has turned to dust.

ReplyDeleteOur grandson's birthday is on Yorkshire Day and he has been in the Dales all week with his family doing the things his mother loved to do, messing about in the beck, walking on the moor, eating cheese, visiting castles and generally having a great time!.

DeleteWe had heavy rain for a short period, but not enough to penetrate the soil to any great extent. It freshened everything up though. 😊

ReplyDeleteLucky you to have regular rainfall. I'm a sun bunny and rejoice in warm weather but not at the expense of plants and crops.
