On a rather unpromising-looking day we caught the boat to the small neighbouring island of Herm. It was low tide and we landed at Rosiere Steps.
But we were soon able to fold away our waterproofs
and walked to the harbour and on to Fisherman's Beach
and from there over to the other side of the island to beautiful Shell Bay
which is very aptly named
and where the water is very cold. My swim did not last long!
Herm is quiet and uncrowded, with gentle walks and lovely beaches. Only the Mermaid Tavern had the more usual bustling summer holiday atmosphere. There we ate a huge plate of fish and chips, followed by an ice-cream!
With thanks to Annemique who took this photo.
Oooh fish and chips....every time you mention fish and chips, my eyes perk up lol...Herm looks like a beautiful spot! I admit I've never heard of it. The beaches look nice, the shell beach reminds me of an area on Prince Edward Island here in Canada...so many shells everywhere, it was fun to go to!
ReplyDeleteRain, I'm going to make your mouth water. The fish was HUGE and so fresh, delicious!
DeleteHello there! I dropped in through my cousin's blog, "Come Away With Me". I am so glad I did. What a tranquil spot.
ReplyDeleteThe beaches were lovely and looked so peaceful and the gardens...exquisite!
Welcome, Gloriade. I think that Herm would be the perfect place to totally unwind and recharge batteries.
DeleteWhat a beautiful island. Being in the heartland of America, all those beaches, islands and boats make me wish I lived by the sea.
ReplyDeleteI'm an island person and so happy whenever I'm by the sea.
DeleteOh My Goodness I so want to be there right now !
ReplyDeletecheers, parsnip and thehamish
Dear Parsnip, I would transport you if I could!
DeleteYou had me at the name, "Shell Bay", but then add the gardens and the fish and chips.. I'm in!! -Jenn
ReplyDeleteIt's the sort of beach you dream of as a child, wandering along the shoreline, head down, searching for the most perfect shells.
DeleteWhat lovely homes, what beautiful flowers and what a pleasant day you must have had.
ReplyDeleteIt was a lovely day, Maybe, the weather much kinder than seemed likely at the start of the day. A journalist from Holland photographed me eating my ice-cream. Don't know whether I will make it into print!
DeleteVisited there many years ago; it looks as beautiful and unspoilt as I remember it.
