Seedy Saturday

If the flower shops are anything to go by then spring is definitely just round the corner.
'Floral Elegance' in Bedale was a riot of colour.

But the weather is grim, dull grey skies and a bitter wind. We wrapped up well and ventured out because today is 'Seedy Saturday', the local annual seed swap event. I packeted up some of my most prolific seeds, delphinium, a blowsy pink poppy, squash, red peppers and so forth and set out to swap!
I had fourteen packets and there were plenty of swaps to choose from.
I resisted the temptation of the plant stalls

had a good look at the specialist sellers
and the side stalls
before buying potatoes, a new variety for me, first earlies  called, 'Isabel'.
Couldn't resist the name - my middle name is Isabella.
We'll find out in due course if she's any good!

  1. So nice to have a seed swap event in the neighbourhood, it sounds like fun. Good for you, you did not buy any plants, but great to try your own name's potatoes, these must be good.

    1. A seed swap is such an excellent idea as there are always some seeds that you have masses of and it is a shame to waste them. I've got a good selection of swaps to sow, now I'm just waiting for things to warm up a little before I plant.
I'll tell you how 'Isabel' tastes and performs in due course. (I resisted buying any plants because I've no space left to put them!)

    1. You're right, Merle, it's a great idea. Our local swap is only in it's sixth year and it started in a small way, getting larger year on year. You will have to start your own!

    1. Hello Nicole, yes, I'll keep you posted. It's still very cold here so nothing much is being done in the garden. The minute it warms up a little there will be more than enough to get on with!

  4. In the photo of the florist's shop, are those blue/violet coloured stems a growing plant or artificially coloured twigs, please? And if they are a living plant - what is it?

    1. Just coloured twigs, I think - they did look nice though!

    1. Hello to you, Jhon. Living in Dubai you'll have no idea just how chilly it is here in Blighty at the moment! We are all waiting for much kinder spring weather.
