Fruit and flowers

We picked all the pears from the tree a couple of weeks ago and it's a good job because we seem to have had nothing but rain and high winds ever since. The fruit is all ripening at the same time and there are only so many that you can eat on a daily basis! Neighbours came to supper and I made a chocolate and pear tart crammed with as much fruit as possible.
And while I was about it I made an apple tart with the non-keeping dessert apples, sprinkled with pomegranate seeds.
I picked a few wind-blown flowers from the garden.

And my neighbours came with flowers. Salvias from Sally - I shall take cuttings.
Delicious orchids from Jane.

Then a bouquet arrived from the bank (as an apology for atrocious service!)
Who cares about the weather when the house is full of flowers!

  1. Lovely flowers indeed and I think I just gained a couple of pounds looking at those tarts.

    1. It's not so much the tarts, Doc, it's the cream that goes on them!

    1. The pear recipe is good, it has a layer of marmalade on the pastry base. I'm sure that I've blogged it in the past but failed to find it on a quick trawl through autumn postings.

  3. OMG, a bank sent you flowers. That would never happen in the US. There would be a better chance here for them to confiscate all of yours. They would want the roots also.

    1. Your comments make me laugh, Maybe! But we have been messed about by our bank for MONTHS, involved in endless unproductive phone calls and visits to the branch. Flowers, and a couple of bottles of wine was the least that they could do!

  4. Laughing at Starting Over, Accepting Changes' comment. I was thinking the same thing. They would send you flowers and debit your account.

    1. Ouch, sounds as though bankers are bankers the world over! I got REALLY, loudly annoyed so the flowers were a clever response - they arrived just as I was contemplating letters to the press.

  5. Flowers from the bank? Good grief, which branch, I want to bank with them! You've put the fruit to some really good use Rosemary, and if any of the pies are going spare, post them on.

    1. No recommendations coming from me, although I believe, as from today, after yet another branch visit, that we are finally sorted.
Tomorrow I'm going to have a go at drying pear slices in the bottom of the oven. I'll report back if it's a success.
