Winter sun

We've had precious little winter sun. It shone briefly yesterday, slanting through the shutters and lighting up odd objects in the rooms. I'm not complaining about the weather because compared to elsewhere we have got off very lightly. It is cold enough for us to stay indoors but nothing worse than that. The plants in the conservatory do NOT look happy!
It's nice to have the usual bits and pieces back in place. They all hold memories.
Here on the mantlepiece is a soapstone of my father's, a jigsaw from a holiday in Venice, a cloth auricula which was a present from a daughter and a tiny tin box of a sleeping cat from when the girls were very small. (I have told you that I'm a hoarder.)
These little Russian dolls are left over from the Christmas decorations. They looked so at home on top of the piano that I've kept them there. Himself brought them back from Russia many years ago and they are in need of a new head of hair. (I could say the same for Himself but won't be so rude!)

    1. The little Russian dolls looked so cheery that I hadn't the heart to pack them away.

  2. It all looks so homey and cozy.
    A conservatory sounds wonderful!!
I have yet to figure out where I packed away my usual decor stuff. So I am substituting other stuff because Lord knows I have plenty! It makes a nice change, anyway.

  3. A lovely look around your home. My husband's name is Himself, too.

    1. There is not much happening in the garden just now so perhaps I'll do a little post of a wander round the house.

  4. I love all your "bits and bobs" . Our house is filled with items that mean something to us. I can't understand people who have a home like a showroom with nothing personal.

    1. It is fascinating the objects that people assemble over time. That is why I did the blog 'my life in one hundred objects.' I learnt from that that objects don't need to have any monetary value to be meaningful.

  5. Thank you for showing us a bit more of your cosy home!
Here, the winter sun mainly served to remind me of how shamefully dirty my windows are. I like cleaning, ironing, washing up and so on, but for some inexplicable reason I hate cleaning windows - probably because I never manage a perfect result. I was actually thinking about doing my windows today, but it's well below freezing here, so not ideal for the task.

    1. I know just what you mean about cleaning windows, there is always a streak or a smudge remaining no matter how zealously you clean. So irritating!

  6. I love your mantlepiece of memories. Just the sort of things I love to keep and enjoy.

    1. It's a dull house that doesn't have a happy jumble of memories!
