The sugar rush is over!

The decorations have been taken down and packed away for another year. "Didn't know we had so many," said Himself. He was looking at over half a century of accumulated bits and bobs. They fit into three plastic boxes that are stored in the space under the staircase. Storage space is one of the good things about our present house, it makes life much easier for a hoarder like me!
We've had the Christmas tree for three years and it is doing well. I watered it daily while it was in the house and it didn't drop a needle. I'm hoping it will last as long as our previous one which we kept for over twenty years!
It is sited for now partially under the veranda so that the frost doesn't prove to be too much of a shock.
All the indulgent food has been eaten and it is back to just the two of us eating in a sensible manner in the kitchen.
But I'm craving some chocolate!

  1. I've been gathering Christmas decorations throughout the week, yet leave the tree decked out until tomorrow, the twelve days of Christmas and all....
I am amazed at your Christmas tree, lasting for years, we tried a live tree one year and planted it in the garden afterwards, it's now a majestic forty foot tall.
Happy New Year to you both.
    Cheers,
    Jo

    1. A very happy 2025 for you too, Jo. Our previous tree stayed in it's pot and got increasingly bald as the years went by! It also got to be quite a problem manhandling it through the doorways. It always came up well once we'd blathered it in decorations!

  2. Happy New Year. I love your tree. Live ones here tend to be pine.

  3. My flat looks almost completely back to normal, with only one star left in the window and two other items on the walls, one in my bedroom and one in the living room. These, too, will go today.
It always leaves me with mixed feelings - sad that the Christmas period is over, glad that normal life is resumed.

    1. I'm happy with back to normal, but I've kept two little Russian dolls on top of the piano.

  4. I love you are able to keep a live tree going, year after year. And that you are able to fit all your decorations into three containers. We presently have 16 empty boxes in the hall, ready to be re-filled with decorations and carried in the attic. My partner LOVES xmas : )

  5. I too love that you have a live tree. How big does it get in the pot? Or do you repot it in ever bigger pots? I have a redbud tree in a pot I've had for over two decades. Not a bonsai but more dwarfed, it's been the same size for a long time.

    1. I've potted it on once so far and will do so again in a year or two. After that the roots will be restricted and it shouldn't grow too quickly. As long as we don't get needle drop we should be okay. (Our old one did end up looking a bit of a straggly specimen!)

  6. Good for you for keeping a live tree for three years.
We try to keep our decorations corralled into three containers, too.
Eating more simply after all the indulgences of the Christmas season is a good thing. More salads and veg around here, too.
