Autumn weather.

The sun is fleeting, most days now are dull and damp. When the clouds part briefly and a patch of blue sky appears we want to make the most of it and we fling on our coats and go outside.

Cold nights have coloured up the leaves and the sun makes them look brilliant.

It is a lovely time of year.

  1. I love seeing pictures of your gardens, and especially love when they include your house. So beautiful! Do you cut back most of your perennials gardens in the fall or do you wait until spring?

    1. I try to cut back and clear as much as possible in the autumn, leaving seed heads such as giant scabious for the blue tits to enjoy. Our weather is so damp that it is best to remove the sodden lumps of old foliage. When I've cleared back I can see where that beastly weed, ground elder, has rampaged all summer!

    2. I do the same. I try and leave what holds up well for winter interest, but the rest goes in autumn. I also have the awful ground elder! I’ve lived in this house for over 40 years and haven’t been able to eradicate it. I sure wish there was a way.

  3. You are doing well in dropping everything as soon as the sun invites for a walk!
I have just been thinking whether I 'should' go for a walk after work today - now the sun is out, and if it is still there by then, I shall go and enjoy it and the beautiful autumn colours.

    1. It's a case of grabbing it while you can. Today, although it is mild there is a heavy mist and rain, I would need to be well wrapped up!

  4. Such beautiful photographs of your garden in its Autumn coat and your house is so pretty. Have just been in our garden and noticed all of the hostas have now turned yellow so time to cut them back. XXXX

    1. Mist and rain today. Autumn has it's own charm but I'm happy to be inside when it is like this - a day to do some baking in the warmth of the kitchen!
