The holiday is over

Things are slowly getting back to normal. When the decorations are first put up I think that our small house looks too cluttered but now that I am starting to take them down everything seems rather bare. I've removed the ornaments from the tree. You can see how spindly it is.
Now it's back in the garden.
Endless rain.

Some cards I put away carefully to keep. I look with incredulity at photos of children transformed in the space of a year into beautiful adults. Just a short while ago these three were cute little characters dressed up in antlers!
Some of my clan found the holiday very exhausting!
Please note, it's the males who are asleep.
(Still wearing their crowns!)

  1. Love the card, a little pre-raphaelite. Men need there rest Rosemary,we work so hard and have thing's such as man flu to contend with. Having g said that, your house looks lovely, but less rain would be nice eh?

    1. It wasn't man-flu that flattened my menfolk, Gary, just an extremely substantial Christmas lunch!
      Rain!**

  3. Adore all your window photos rain or not. What
beautiful views you have filled with the best decorations.
I live in a desert (although this year weather has been strange) and I love to see the rain on the window pane.

    cheers, parsnip and thehamish

    1. Yes, I'll agree, the rain on the windows looks nice when you are warm and dry inside. A different matter for all those poor souls who are having to deal with flooded homes as this weather continues. (I'm on the computer looking at holidays in the sun!)

  4. The endless rain photo is exquisite! You've turned your window into a jewel box... Wondering if it isn't the way to go year round?!

    1. Ah, you're a bit of a mind reader, Wildside! I said to Himself, "I'm rather loathe to take the paper lantern down, it looks so cheery." However, the decorations are now down and leave space for signs of spring to come, branches of catkins and those funny pretend eggs to dangle from them that I bought last year.
      (It's still raining!)

  5. It's raining here as well but we NEED it. I'm hoping for a nice garden this year after last year's drought. I know what you mean. The house always looks a bit empty after the holidays. I've actually kept a glittery snowflake from Xmas up on the mirror for the past two years and it is a nice shiny touch when things get all boring in January. It's looking quite cozy at your house. Happy New Year to You, Rosemary.

    1. I'm glad that you're getting some much-needed rain, Connie, it's just that we get far too much of the stuff. Our home both looks and feels rather empty now that the girls have gone. When they are here the piano is played and the space comes alive. Wee One bought us a cd of Caro Emerald music and we have been playing that ever since, volume UP, jigging about to rid ourselves of the January blues!

  6. The rain on your window looks so much nicer than mine. Your scenes are lovely. Our days are grey and foggy and even the sight of cherry blossoms growing in winter because of our unusual warm weather, seem not to even stand out because of the dullness of the day. I am actually looking forward to a "little" snow to brighten things up.

    1. We all seem to be experiencing the same mixed-up weather patterns with unseasonal blossom and dark, wet days. Wishing you brighter times ahead, Maybe, with just a sprinkling of snow!

  7. Today we are getting the most rain we have had in a long time! Your crowned crew appear to be a exhausted as does are.

    Have a lovely New Year!

  8. My decorations came down tonight - and now I see that I need to do a Grand Clean Up tomorrow! Pretty lights and sparkling tinsel, along with candlelight - all these cover a multitude of sins. Do I really have to clean the windows? There's only rain and a soggy garden to be seen out there.

    1. But think how virtuous you will feel if you do a Grand Clean Up! (I just did the quick whip round.)
Rain!** I'm dreaming of sun and heat.
