2026

The years race by. We've had some sharp frost and I threw fleece over the citrus for a little protection.
We have also had a bit, and only a bit, of very welcome sunshine. I like it in the winter when the sun is low enough in the sky to shine into the house. I took all the decorations down on Twelfth Night and sunlight lit up the various ornaments and a good layer of dust!
All these little objects, a motley collection assembled over many years, are now back in the Christmas box under the stairs. Thank goodness for a house with plenty of cupboards!
The tree is back in the garden and the house has been given a good clean, so it is a fresh start to a New Year. How sad that the Christmas spirit doesn't seem to have a chance in the world at large. Oh America, how low can you sink? Perhaps I should have kept my Christmas angels hanging.
We are all in need of angels.

  1. We are, aren't we!
My bedroom window looked nice with the stars I'd sellotaped on the panes, but now that they are back in the Christmas box, I know a session of window cleaning is in order... my only excuse is that we've had rain yesterday and today, and tomorrow it's my sister's birthday... and then it's Sunday and I want to rest... and then it's Monday and the working week starts...

    1. Ah ha, I know how it goes! My problem is that when I do attempt to clean my windows the result is never very impressive.

  2. The winter sun seems to highlight the dust. Our big room is warmed by the morning sun so I'm not complaining.
It's amazing how much it moves. At the moment it shines straight into my eyes when I sit in my armchair. Another month and it will light up a completely different spot.
You should keep your angels out. I do

    1. I never complain about sunshine, we don't get enough of it and I can live with dust, housework isn't very high on my list of things to do!
I found a small Christmas angel bear overlooked on the mantelpiece. Perhaps I should keep her there for a bit of support?

  3. I love all the special little Christmas things from years ago. Each one usually holds a special memory. :-) Love, Andrea xoxo

    1. The mouse on the tree top was new last year after I took a look at the very old one and realised that it was a grubby, collapsing disgrace! Most other things seem to be holding up quite well. (It's just me and the old bloke who are falling to bits!)
Hope you are starting to feel much better, Andrea. Sending you positive vibes.

    1. "There are hundreds!" said Himself as I was packing them away. I did point out that they had been collected/made for well over half a century.

  5. It's funny how so many memories are attached to particular Christmas ornaments. I remember when my parents decided to downsize, before they moved they sent so many things off to the charity shop, amongst them all the ornaments I remember from my childhood, I was so sad. My parents weren't sentimental people and just didn't think I'd want them.

    1. Ouch, that was pretty brutal. Happily my mother was a hoarder so nothing was ever thrown out.. I am no better, and hang on to stuff, cardis with holes and the like long after they have given up the ghost.

  6. Christmas ornaments hold a lot of memories here, too. They've been collected over the years and each one could tell a story.
Sunshine in winter is a beautiful thing!

    1. A day of low light and rain, so I shall greet the sun with joy next time it shines.

    1. It does seem to take a whole lot longer to pack the decorations away than it did to put them up!

  9. It took ne a while longer than usual to take mine down this year. No reason really, I just saw no reason to hurry. Your decorations look charming!
