At the weekend
It was our turn to host the book club at the weekend and the request for supper was to have fish and chips from Chez Fred's. The weather was disgraceful, torrential downpours, sufficiently miserable for us to light the stove and set the table in the warmth of the kitchen. We were discussing, 'Snow Country' by Yasunari Kawabata and I didn't get on with it at all. (Review over on Miss Cellany.)
On Sunday the weather improved and we walked on the beach. The lifeguard station was manned and flags flying to mark where it was best to swim. (We weren't tempted.)
This year the art for charity is a fish/ mermaid? tail.
When we got back from the beach we polished off the pudding left over from the night before!

Beautiful fish tails.
ReplyDeleteThose poor deckchairs look so lonely!
Yes, you are right, there's something sad about the sight of empty deckchairs blowing in the wind!
DeleteThe fish tails look as though they are the same idea as our kiwis earlier in the year. Your room looks lovely and cosy.
ReplyDeleteWe had a happy sociable supper in the kitchen, not able to eat outside this year as the weather had been terrible all day!
DeleteOh those tails are delightful. Lovely way to brighten up the area
ReplyDeleteI think they are up for sale to help fund local charities.
DeleteIt looks like a whale's fluke. Interesting!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are great, I love the row of striped deckchairs.
So you had fish & chips takeaway in your kitchen? Were the chips still good? We tried that once (to have fish & chips back at the house, taken from a small chip shop near the market square) but found the chips had become soggy and nearly cold by the time we opened the styrofoam box.
Too bad about your cold and soggy supper, that does not sound good. Ours were piping hot and I had mushy peas, vinegar, gherkins, sliced bread and butter etc set out on the table. I put plates in the oven to be hot for the food when it arrived. I meant to take a photo of us all but got too engrossed in doling out the food! It was fun.
