Barbara Hepworth's garden

The morning mist was clearing as we arrived at the garden that had belonged to the artist Barbara Hepworth. It is now managed by Tate St Ives.

THERE ARE
SO
MANY
DIFFERENT
WAYS
TO
LOOK
AT
ONE
 PIECE OF SCULPTURE!

I love the way that the church tower and the roofs of houses are visible beyond the privacy of the garden.
The light was good for taking photos. The spring trees, not yet in leaf, cast delicate shadows.
Studio space at the top end of the garden
with plenty of carborundum tools!

Work on display in the studio.

    1. I've visited several times before but on this occasion the light was good and the garden quiet - just how I like it.

    1. I much prefer the work that she created in wood to the rather chilly foundry work. As stand alone pieces they leave me cold, but I do love to see them out in the open when they are tempered by foliage and shifting light.
(Like Barbara Hepworth I studied Fine Art at Leeds College of Art. We were taught the traditional, hands-on way, making and tempering our own carving tools in the foundry and mixing pigments in the studio.)
