Autumn

Well, I don't know what happened to summer, this year it was a case blink and you'll miss it and I must have blinked. It definitely feels like autumn now. The garden looks bedraggled, not helped by yesterday's strong winds.

The water tubs are full
and I've put most of the squash undercover for there's more rain to come.
Others still have their leaves.

In spite of my efforts there is still a lot of wastage with the apple crop.

But other crops get eaten the minute they are ripe!

Only two trusses left on 'Red Cherry' and then they will be gone.
The 'Blue Lake' climbing French beans have finished cropping. I left a good number to set seed for next year, some for myself and some to bag up for the seed swap.
I feel rather melancholic, summers seem to get ever shorter and winters go on for too long.

  1. Ah, season of mists and mellow fruitfulness at last... We had mist today, didn't we?

    1. Do you want any apples, Tom? Forget all that Keats stuff, I want a bit more summer.

  2. What a full & productive garden you have. I only grew two tomato plants, which are only now giving us ripen fruit. We also had a massive storm last night & not even part of Harvey The Hurricane. I do like Tom's Keats quote.

    1. Yes, for all that I was sarky with Tom, I do love Keat's poetry, which I studied at school. He has nailed autumn perfectly. (As a teenager I thought his poetry and his life and death so romantic - la belle dame etc.!)

  3. Hello! Thank you for visiting my blog. ☺
What a beautiful garden you have. I read in envy of your crops, which look delicious. If I had a garden like that, I'd be bottling and freezing for all I'm worth too.

    1. It's nice to visit you Lady Ella. This is certainly the time of plenty in the veg garden - I'm as busy as the squirrels!

  4. Well, hello there Bogart, but I'm moving nowhere, my feet are firmly rooted in this soil, just like my crops.

  5. Hello there, Thank you for stopping by my blog. It looks like you had a lovely garden this summer. It might be bedraggled but still looking lush and green. I garden a little but not really passionate about it. We had a difficult spring followed by had a bit of drought here in the Northwest this summer so the gravensteins were rather sparse this year. The deer ate most of what there were. No homemade applesauce this year.
