What a difference a day makes!

We had a small bonfire of garden waste at home before leaving for Yorkshire, knowing that when we  got up north a great heap of debris was waiting to be burnt, hopefully on the village bonfire.
Some hope! Basher Brown came and took a look at our offering in the back garth, preparing to move a few branches for us. When he saw how much there was he said, "Have your own ....... bonfire!"
There were still a lot of leaves to fall.
But, after a exciting village bonfire night, when a cold north wind created a roaring fire , giving us very warm fronts and very cold backs, we woke to the sight of falling snow.
Same view, different day!
The trees looked lovely seen from our bedroom window.

But we had yet to light our own bonfire!
(Neither was it good weather for hanging washing on the line.)
Time to go out for a walk and look at the village in the snow.

Following the beck up to the small waterfall.

You can see how soft the snow was
and how low the light level.

By the following day much of the snow had gone.

  1. Beautiful pictures, but isn't it early for snow? I am hoping not to see any in my area until January or maybe never. Last year was a warm winter with little snow except the 30 inches that came in February. It was a lot of snow but it was gone in less than a week.

    1. It's usual to have a dusting of snow on the hill tops at this time of year but not to have quite a deep fall while so many leaves are still on the trees. It lasted no time at all and we lit a good bonfire once it had disappeared.

  2. So that is what you've been up to Rosemary. We'll have our first freeze this week. That was quite a lot of snow. I like it when it comes and leaves just as fast. Our leaves are still falling and I am waiting to pick up limbs and such and will try to find someone to rake leaves. They won't let you burn in the city.

    1. I'm back home and raking leaves like mad! They all go on the compost heap to rot down, a huge great pile at the moment but it will magically reduce to quite a small amount. The garden is due a good tidy up but the weather is too wet to do more than leaf sweeping for now.

  3. Goodness I didn't realise that the snowfall in the North was quite as much. Although it does make for some lovely pictures.
