Meanwhile...

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, as the saying goes, everything has romped out of control. We have been away for only a short time, less than two weeks, but in our absence the badgers managed to dig a hole under the fence and devour all the gooseberries. They have done far worse in past years, so although it's annoying  I'm relieved that at least the root crop is still in the ground!

Flowers have newly bloomed in the borders.

The phlox, 'Miss Kelly' is one of my favourites.

The lovely 'Blauwschokker' pea flowers have turned into interesting-looking pods, although Maisie doesn't look very impressed.

The wrens haven't discovered a taste for blueberries (yet!)

And the marigold borders are keeping the carrot flies away.

We are eating well!

  1. Good job marigolds. What a nice harvest. Your blueberries look good! It is amazing what can change when you're gone a bit.

  2. I understand your pain. The carrots, and are those radishes, look so deliciously fresh. You just gotta love marigolds!

  3. Isn't it lovely eating you own produce? We had beetroot and courgettes today at lunch time and the peas will soon be ready. Our marigolds are not in flower yet. I have a deep blue jug waiting for the first bunch - I love that combination of colours.

  5. What a special garden to return to. I love exploring all the corners of my garden when I have been away - we have badger problems too, mainly they dig up the lawn looking for grubs.

  7. I just love your garden posts....blueberries, yum! Badgers, I've never seen a real one...when I was a kid I used to be bummed that we didn't have these and skunks and beavers, etc. in Hawaii, but I guess I am thankful now...Cheers Connie

  8. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I love your garden! The edibles mixed in with all those flowers is very impressive. Here in Florida we have no badgers but have armadillos which do much the same damage. I find burrows against the foundation of the house and uprooted plants from their searching for grubs and insects in the soil. I look forward to seeing more of your beautiful and bountiful garden.

  9. Dear Gardener, Yes, those blueberries are good! And Bonnie, the 'radishes' are actually small beetroot, very sweet and tasty.
Although I don't really like the colour orange in my flower borders, Weaver, I do love to see the marigolds in the vegetable patch- and they look great with blue, complementary colour contrast!
Hello Stephanie, glad you're enjoying the blog.
Dear Rosemary, now I am enjoying taking a peek at your garden and it looks most impressive.
    Dear Doc, my sentiments exactly!
Hello Connie, you wouldn't want a badger to visit your garden, I can assure you. They may look like gentleman in evening suits but they don't behave that way!
Dear NanaK, Welcome. I had intended stopping this post last month as I felt that I had said and photographed everything about my garden. However I still seem to be warbling on a bit.
