Smashing Day

Woke to sunshine, in a misty, autumnal sort of way, and knew that it was going to be a smashing day. Next week we are going to hire a skip (and possibly a mini digger!) and set to work on the garage and greenhouse. The building has been in a state of semi collapse since we bought the place, the rear wall having long ago parted company from its companions. So, today is the day for carefully removing panes of glass, smashing up rotten woodwork,  and battling the thick ivy clinging to the side wall. It is no surprise for us to find that the garage was built without foundations, hence the need for a digger.
There is a lot of debris - a great excuse for a bonfire!

We have an ugly and hazardous sloping roof to remove and plan to put in its place one that is  pitched and tiled.

Is it going to be a case of ugly duckling to swan, or can't make a silk purse out of a pig's ear?
Watch this space.

  1. Oh I am swooning from here....look at that structure...such great bones and yes a tile roof is brilliant.

You must post and show us the progress...I for one, am green with envy!

  3. Hello Urban Cottage. We know that you love a good project! Hope the painting is going well. Whether our work will be 'good' remains to be seen, but it should certainly be a whole lot better. The present roof is asbestos, a hazardous material that is going to give us some problems in removal and disposal. I'll be glad when it's done.
