Summer!

Sometimes in Blighty summer is a bit of a damp squib. Not this year, we seem to have been living for weeks now as if we were in the Mediterranean. I'm a sun bunny and if I were not also a gardener I would be in seventh heaven. The sea temperature is delightful, no problem to plunge straight in, not my ususual slow entry and thoughts about changing my mind! But the plants in the garden are under stress. The bath water that we run into the water butts is quickly used on the various pots. They seem to respond well to soapy water!
It can still be quiet on the beach during the week but it is a different story at the weekend.
We went to the beach in the early evening expecting it to be quiet. No such thing, all the locals had had the same idea as us and barbeques were being lit and school children playing games and throwing themselves into the sea. The atmosphere was lovely. The local shops have got their summer window displays arranged ready for the school holidays.
Oh I do like to be beside the seaside!

  1. You can choose your moments to go to the beach, one of the perks of being a local. You look amazing in your bikini.

    1. We have been living near the coast for less than three years and it feels as though we are on holiday whenever we go to the beach.
Bikini shots are strictly from a distance although I've never been bothered about body image, there are all shapes and sizes on the beach!

  2. Look at you in that bikini, girl. You're still rocking it. Go you!! You say you water your flowers with soapy water? It doesn't kill them, eh? I have never heard of such a thing. Interesting! ~Andrea xoxo

    1. It is DRY, I'm not wasting any water. We have a hosepipe hanging out of the bathroom window and syphon the water into a tub below. No problems so far but I'm longing for a really good drenching, the garden is really suffering now.
'60's art school girl, happy in a bikini whatevs!

  3. You're a Bond Girl if I have ever seen one!
When in one of your recent posts you were mentioning using the bath water for the garden I was wondering about the soap, but as you say and as is obvious from your photos, the plants are thriving. All that beautiful pink!

    1. I can have an indulgent bath knowing that the water will be put to good use. We are using just a good quality soap, no bubble bath etc. so the water seems to be doing no harm.

    1. Every winter I think that my bougainvillea has died, it becomes a very forlorn -looking stick so I'm delighted that it has not only survived but also put on such a good show (for Blighty!)
See my reply to jabblog about my bikini, I wouldn't look too good in a close-up!

  5. My goodness, you look amazing! Well done!
Your flowers are still looking good, but yes, the heat certainly isn't good for your English gardens. Mine don't like it too well either. Today, at last, rain arrived and the heat has broken, for a couple days anyway.

    1. I'm glad you've had some rain and cooler weather, I'm hoping for the same! The larger shrubs and trees are starting to suffer, either shedding leaves or having them wilt on the branch. Hand watering really doesn't touch it.

  6. Your garden is looking wonderful in spite of the lack of water and the heat. You look wonderful too.

    1. It is hard to watch the garden suffer in this long period of drought. Not very British is it!

  7. Pink seems to be the color of the day. When I lived in the city I had an enormous bougainvillea just outside the back door which made a sort of canopy. One of the many things I miss about that house. The beach here is an hour away, not too far but far too hot at this time of year.

    1. Your canopy of flowers sounds delightful. Time to create one for your present house?
Yes, it is VERY pink at the moment although I've been busy chopping back the geraniums to get another flush of flowers.
